Career Coaching/Counseling: How It Works
GETTING STARTED:
We'll begin with an initial (no-cost) 15-minute phone call to explore whether working together makes sense. We'll get a snapshot of what you would like to accomplish, and if it seems like a good fit, I'll ask you to do some specific thinking and pre-work in advance of our first meeting. This will allow us to maximize our time right from the start.
FREQUENCY OF MEETINGS:
This varies and is completely tailored to your needs. For example, in the case of clients who are very clear on their goals, one meeting may be enough. For others, it’s not unusual to return for several meetings, sometimes widely-spaced.
You will leave the first meeting having generated a homework assignment for yourself (a collaboration, but you're in control), and the timing of the next meeting will be determined based on how long it will likely take to complete that task.
I have a strong bias towards practical action; small safe steps at your own pace are fine, or if you’re ready to make a bold move, I’ll help you determine its practicality. You are always in charge.
OVERALL APPROACH:
If you want a classic, no-nonsense career counseling approach, that is exactly the route we’ll use.
If you wish to explore more intuitive or complementary approaches, I am delighted to do that as well, as long as we bring that approach back around, to ground it and make it practical. (For more information on alternative approaches, see the "About Me" section)
