HOW LEADERSHIP COACHING WORKS
The Initial Process:
In an initial phone call, we will explore aligning our mutual expectations. There will be an intake and brief pre-work for you to complete and an initial in-person meeting to assess our level of comfort with and confidence in the process and its goals. If we determine I am not the right coach for you, I’ll work with you on other referrals and resources.
The Leadership Coaching Process:
Normally, leadership coaching is built on a series of 6 meetings (usually 60-90 minutes, or less). See below for exceptions to this.
Our first formal meeting will help you create a specific, clear, strategic goal and begin to develop a plan for reaching it. We’ll look at supports and obstacles to your plan, and you’ll determine next steps. After that, sessions 2-6 focus on your doing the work in between the meetings, coming in and reviewing how it’s going or making needed adjustments, and planning what needs to be done before the next meeting.
Single Meetings:
Former coaching clients often come in for an annual or semi-annual tune up meeting; there are also other exceptions to the “6-meeting batch approach.” Contact me to discuss what you might need.
Duration Between Coaching Sessions:
Because you will need time in between meetings to work towards your goal, there are usually 3-4 weeks in between each meeting; thus, six meetings occur over about six months. This is tailored to your needs, and can go shorter or longer as required.
Part of the Initial Decision: To 360 or Not to 360?
Coaching often begins with the initial administration of a 360-degree feedback instrument. If that is required, I frequently use an interview-based approach and will be happy to speak with you (or with whoever is sponsoring your leadership coaching, and with you) about what would work best. From a multi-day, in-person interview process, to a simple series of 5-minute phone interviews, I’ll work with you to set a price that covers the interviews, interpretation, and delivery of the results.
[NOTE: If you have recently had a 360-degree evaluation, or are brand-new in your role, or if there are other special circumstances, this may not be needed.]
