Personal Interests: Mindfulness and Art in Daily Life
In my personal life, I have a passion for practicing a number of textile arts. Below, you can see one of my traditionally hand-hooked rugs. I have been making rugs since the early 1990s. In 2000 I also learned to punch rugs and in 2016 I became a certified instructor in this method by the Oxford Rug Hooking School (Cornwall, VT). Punch needle embroidery (created with a tiny punch needle and embroidery floss or lightweight wool) is also an interest and I was certified to teach in 2003. You can see examples of hooked and punched rugs and punched embroidery pieces under the Gallery of Textile Art tab.
Currently I am working on teaching myself to draw. I am a Certified Zentangle® Teacher (CZT) and take pleasure in sharing this highly meditative art form to those who feel they "don't have a creative bone in their body." You'll be surprised...
Vipassana meditation is my daily practice; I regularly attend meditation retreats, and am a student of the interface between psychology and spirituality in both Eastern and Western traditions. In 2021 I completed a two year Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Training program, training with Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach as well as other teachers..
Additionally, I am continuing a lifelong, in-depth study in the psychology of the tarot and in the practical application of intuition in everyday life. I am happy to employ these alternative skills in my work with clients, but only when invited to do so.

Previous Professional Interests and Qualifications:
In addition to my years of work in career and leadership coaching (description below), I have always had a strong interest in working with pre- and post-retirement clients on how they plan to use their time after leaving formal work. Creativity comes in so many forms: Full- or part-time work that truly fulfills us, or learning a language, travel, grandparenting, yoga, meditation, hiking, cooking, journaling, or all the "classic" art forms such as drawing, painting, drama, music, writing, textiles and others. The list goes on and on...we can be creative in any of a thousand ways. Which is right for you?
I'm quite curious about (and focused on) integrating the latest neuroscience research on the brain and mindfulness, and on how we all can “show up” in daily life. I am a long-term meditation practitioner, as mentioned above.
Before leaving full-time work, I was fortunate enough to have enjoyed years of practice as a career and leadership coach for clients of all ages, races, cultures, and stages of work. For decades, my favorite work was asking targeted questions to help my clients discover what they wanted to do next, and then help them develop and work on an effective and tailored plan to achieve that goal. My specialties were in careers in higher education and non-profit environments, and mid- to later-life career issues. Along the way, I worked in settings as disparate as higher education, hospitals, hospice, community agencies, coffee houses, shops, and on the stage.
My academic training includes a Master’s Degree in Social Work, an M.A. in Social Psychology, and a B.A. in Liberal Arts. I also hold coaching certifications through Babson College Executive Education Program, The Coach's Studio, and the University of New Hampshire's Professional Coaches Program. I'm licensed in the Change Immunity Map Process through Minds at Work, LLC.
